Employment Opportunities

Working at FLAC is an excellent opportunity to acquire practical legal experience while still in law school. Student attorneys, working under the guidance of licensed attorneys, gain hands-on experience managing all phases of real cases. They handle cases from the initial client interview, to investigating facts, drafting court pleadings, appearing in court on behalf of clients and entering the final judgment. Unlike many other internships, students participating in FLAC have the opportunity to work on their own cases from start to finish with extensive direct client contact.

The atmosphere at the Clinic is relaxed and fun, allowing students to meet and work with their classmates in a unique environment while gaining confidence in their role as client advocate. Students come away from their experience at FLAC with a deeper and more realistic understanding of the practice of law. Participation in FLAC instills the importance of pro bono work and giving back to the community. FLAC has proven to be an invaluable experience for students, regardless of the type of law they eventually practice.

During the school year, student attorneys have the option to work for credit, work-study funds, or as volunteers. Credit students will be awarded three (3) credits per semester and are required to work twelve (12) hours per week and attend a classroom component (biweekly 2-hour meeting). Work-study students must be financially eligible for federal work-study funds and can work up to 20 hours per week for hourly employment. Volunteers at the Clinic may elect the extent of their weekly commitment.

*Participation is limited to those who have completed one year (full-time) of law school and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 and above. Interviews for summer positions will be held in April.
